Japanese Government Scholarship for 2012
The Embassy of Japan in the Kingdom of Bahrain is pleased to invite interested Bahraini students who wish to study at Japanese universities on various fields as undergraduate students and research students(postgraduate students) to apply for MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Scholarship for 2012.
The Japanese Government scholarship program was established in 1954, which is intended to increase mutual understanding between the people of Japan and the other countries as well as to make an international contribution to the intellectual field. The scholarship benefits include air fees between Japan and Bahrain, tuition fees and a monthly allowance.
Applicants of undergraduate students must have been born between April 2, 1990 and April 1, 1995, also have completed a 12-year school education. (Included is any applicant who has the above qualifications by March, 2012.) Research students must have been born on or after April 2,1977.
The term of scholarship is as follows:
1. Undergraduate Students
The scholarship is tenable for five years from April 2012 to March 2017 (including one-year for study ing Japanese language), except for those majoring in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or a six-year course in pharmacy, whose term of scholarship is seven years until March 2019.
2. Research Students
Applicants may choose one of the following terms of scholarship:
(1) Two years from April 2012 to March 2014. (Include six months for studying the Japanese language)
(2) One and a half years from October 2012 to March 2014. (Include six months for studying the Japanese language)
If Grantee enrolls in a master's course, doctoral course, or professional graduate course after arriving in Japan, regardless of the time of his/her arrival in Japan; the scholarship will be payable for a period necessary for Grantee to complete his/her regular course (standard course term). (Plus a 6-month Japanese language training period for the Grantee who needs such training.)
3. The selection of candidates is as follows:
(1) The Embassy conducts a primary screening of candidates by means of submitted application documents, written examination and interviews.
(2) The Government of Japan conducts a secondary screening based on the results of the primary screening conducted by the Embassy.

The program has benefited more than 79,000 participants from over 160 countries until the end of May 2009. More than 20 Bahraini students have been given opportunities to study at Japanese universities, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Bahrain since 1994. Currently, eight Bahraini students are studying in Japan.
