Frequently Asked Questions

Study in Japan

Yes, you can study in English. Japan offers many English-taught degree programs, especially at the postgraduate level. These programs typically do not require Japanese language proficiency for application. Japanese-taught programs typically require JLPT N2 or higher.

Regardless of the program's language of instruction, basic Japanese skills are highly recommended for daily life and communication. Routine administrative tasks — such as opening a bank account, reviewing lease agreements, joining clubs, interacting with ward offices, and visiting local clinics — become significantly more manageable with practical, everyday Japanese skills.

In Bahrain currently, MEXT primarily offers "Research Scholarships" for Master's or PhD degrees, requiring a bachelor's degree completion. High school students are not eligible for this. Non-Bahraini applicants must apply through their home country's embassy.

Note: In 2026, Bahrain's Ministry of Education has announced new undergraduate scholarships for Japan. Stay tuned for details coming soon.

While initially challenging due to its writing systems and grammar, Japanese is highly structured and consistent. Many students successfully learn it step-by-step with regular study and support from programs in Japan. Many naturally pick up from Anime and Manga too. There is a Japan Foundation platform dedicated to learning through Anime and Manga.
