A Bahraini reported the result to the Ambassador about Japanese-Language Program 2015 for Overseas Student provided by the Japan Foundation
On the 6th of October 2015, Ms. Fatima Kaladari, who studies in University of Bahrain, visited Japanese Embassy and met H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Asako, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain in order to report the result of Japanese-Language Program 2015 for Overseas Student which was organized by the Japan Foundation in Osaka, Japan. The program took place for 15 days from the 19th of August to 2nd of September, 2015.
The program offered participants opportunities to visit attractive sites in major cities in Japan, to communicate with Japanese citizens through home visit with Japanese host families and to deepen their understanding of Japan including Japanese people, society, culture and history and so on.
Ms. Fatima has been majoring in chemistry in University of Bahrain, and also studying Japanese language until now at the “Continuing Education Program” provided by Ministry of Education which is supported by NOMURA Bahrain-Japan Friendship Fund.
A Bahraini reported the result to the Ambassador about Training Program in Japan
On the 5h of October 2015, Ms. Sheikha Hessa Humood Al Khalifa, who is working in Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, visited Japanese Embassy and met H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Asako, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain in order to report the result of her visit to Japan that program was took place for 7 days from the 13th to 19th of September, 2015 invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
The program invited participants from the Middle East and North Africa areas and offered them opportunities to have a lesson and discussion at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in Tokyo. Additionally, they received a Japanese cultural experience program in Kyoto and Hiroshima to deepen their understanding of Japan including Japanese people, society, culture and history and so on.
A Bahraini leaves for Japan to study on the Japanese Government Scholarship Program for 2015
H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Asako, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain received a courtesy call from Ms. Budoor Bassim Al Murbati on the 10th of September, 2015. He left for Japan on the 23rd of September, 2015 to study at a Japanese university on the Japanese Government Scholarship Program for 2015. She has been accepted to study Japanese cultural history and Asian cultural exchange at Kyushu University, Graduate School as a research student.
Two Bahraini students have received the Japanese Government Scholarship for 2015, the other recipient has been studying at Tsukuba University for his doctor degree from April, 2015.
The Japanese Government has been providing scholarships to Bahraini students since 1994. More than 30 students were given opportunities to study at Japanese universities and six Bahraini students including Ms. Budoor Bassim Al Murbati are currently studying in Japan.
Japanese Students’ Educational Visit to the Embassy of Japan
On the 3rd of September 2015, teachers and students of the Japanese School in Bahrain visited the Japanese Embassy as part of an educational visit.
At first, H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Asako, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain and a representative student from the school made opening speeches, followed by a presentation about Ministry of Foreign Affair in Japan and the Embassy by the Ambassador, the students also visited offices of the Ambassador and other staffs and they were briefed by duties of each section.
Dancing Artist Group ”Wrecking Crew Orchestra” Visited to Bahrain and Performed Show
On the 26th of August 2015, H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Asako, Ambassador of Japan received a courtesy call from Japanese dancing artist group “Wrecking Crew Orchestra” prior to their performance show in Bahrain.
Wrecking Crew Orchestra is well-known dancing group and their performance show is highly reputed all over the world. Thanks to that, they are invited by Bahrain Authority of Culture and Antiquates on this summer.
On 28th and 29th, they provided a performance show and got the audience of Bahraini and Japanese residents excited in the theatre.
The Ambassador's Residence Reception for Football Associations
On the 27th of April 2015, H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Asako, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain received at his residence board members of football associations.
Around 30 guests including H.E. Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, President of Bahrain Football Association (BFA), H.E. Mr. Saoud Al Mohannadi, Vice President of Qatar Football Association (QFA), Mr. Kuniya Daini, President of Japan Football Association (JFA) and Mr. Kozo Tashima, Vice President & Executive General Secretary of JFA attended the reception, which strengthened the relationship between Japan and Foreign Countries through sport exchange.
On the 30th of April 2015, Mr. Tashima was elected as FIFA Executive Committee member for four years at the AFC election held at the 26th AFC Congress in Manama, Bahrain.
A Bahraini Student Obtains her Master's Degree on a Japanese Government Scholarship
On the 16th of April 2015, H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Asako, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain revieced Ms. Ebtihal Mohammed Hameed Mulla Abudulla Salman, a Japanese Government Scholarship student in order to present her master's degree cirtificate.
Ms. Salman obtained her master's degree in medicine at Kyoto University in Japan in March 2015. She worked as a medical lab technologist at Salmaniya Medical Complex before she went to Japan in April 2012 and she was reinstated in her post after her coming back to Bahrain.
During the meeting, the Ambassador praised Ms. Salman's diligent efforts in Japan, wished her every success and hoped that she would act as a go-between for Japan and Bahrain. Ms. Salman said that her studentlife in Japan was enjoyful and meaningful. She also expressed her deepest gratitude to the Ambassador for supporting her studies in Japan and her desire to participate actively in developing relations between the two countries.
A Bahraini leaves for Japan to study on the Japanese Government Scholarship Program for 2015
On the 26th of March, 2015, H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Asako, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain received a courtesy call from Mr. Ammar Shaker Hamed Hasan. Mr. Shaker left to Japan on the 1st of April, 2015 to study at a Japanese university within the Japanese Government Scholarship Program for 2015. He has been accepted to study medical science at Tsukuba University as a research student. He is expected to stay in Japan to obtain his Ph.D.
Mr. Shaker obtained his Degree of Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medicine at King Faisal University in 2007 and returned to Bahrain to be a veterinarian at Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.
Two Bahraini students have received the Japanese Government Scholarship for 2015, the other recipient will study at Kyushu University for her master degree from October, 2015.
The Japanese Government has been providing scholarships to Bahraini students since 1994. More than 30 students were given opportunities to study at Japanese universities and seven Bahraini students including Mr. Shaker are currently studying in Japan.

Japanese Ambassador Award of the Bahrain Garden Club's 50th Annual Flower and Vegetable Competition Presented
On the 14th of March 2015, H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Asako, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, presented to winners awards including Japanese Ambassador Award for the Ikebana Class (Free style exhibition) which is one of the categories of the Bahrain Garden Club's 50th Annual Flower and Vegetable Competition. Also, Mr. Nasser M.J. Al Arayedh, Deputy President of Bahrain-Japan Business and Friendship Society, presented to the winner a memento for the Ikebana Class (Special Occasion exhibition).
Shaikha Maram Bint Ahmad Al Khalifa, Director of Office of Her Royal Highness Sheikha Sabeeka attended the ceremony and she presented other awards to others winners, too.
Meeting with those who visited Japan
On the 25th of February 2015, a number of Bahrainis, inculuding youths who have returned from Japan after their participation in the Global Youth Leaders Development Program 2014 "The Ship for World Youth Leaders" (SWY2014) and those who studied in Japan with the Japanese Government Scholarship, joined the meeting in the Residence of Ambassador. The SWY2014 participants made a presentation on their visit to Japan. Japanese businessmen and teachers in Bahrain also participated in the meeting and they exchanged views on the Japanese culture and learning of Japanese language.
Bahrain Archeology Research Group Fieldwork Presentation
On the 24th of January 2015, Japan Bahrain Archeology Research Group (Head: Dr. Takeshi Gotoh, Special Projects Curator, Tokyo National Museum) held the fieldwork presentation at Wadi as Sail burial mounds.
The research group is going to research ancient ruins in Bahrain between 2014FY and 2018FY, supported by the Japanese government subsidy and in cooperation with Bahrain Culture and Antiquities Authority (BCAA). In this occasion, the research group has been approved of excavation at Wadi as Sail burial mounds (Around B.C. 2200 ~ B.C. 2050) during January 2015 by BCAA.
A lot of Japanese residents visited the site, observing the excavated tombs, and were very interesting to explanation by the research group staff members including Dr. Gotoh.
Bahraini Youths Joining in the Global Youth Leaders Development Program 2014
"The Ship for World Youth Leaders"
On Sunday, 11th of January 2015, ten Bahraini youths received their air tickets to Japan at the Embassy of Japan from H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Asako, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, to participate in the Global Youth Leaders Development Program 2014 "The Ship for World Youth Leaders" (SWY2014).
The delegation, headed by Mr.Jihad Falah Albinfalah, will leave for Japan on the 20th of January. They will stay in Japan between the 21st of January and 13th of February. They will be offered several programs such as a homestay in the rural area, training programs, boarding the ship together with 112 Japanese youths and 90 fellow participants from 9 different countries, they will also pay visits to Naha city, Okinawa prefecture and Ofunato city, Miyagi prefecture.
Moreover, the Kingdom of Bahrain is selected as "Japanese Mission to Foreign Countries", Japanese youths will visit Bahrain as part of the program which is carried out from the 14th to the 20th of February as well as the last year.
Japanese Pop Culture Festival 2014
The Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with Ministry of Culture, launched "Japanese Pop Culture Festival 2014" on the 26th of November, the 3rd and the 11th of December at the auditorium of the National Museum.
The movies on the 26th of November and the 11th of December were subtitled in English because the English language can be understood generally in Bahrain, people with various nationalities as well as Bahraini enjoyed the Japanese movies.
On the 3rd December, the workshop by Mr. Hiroyuki Hayashida, Japanese Computer Graphic (CG) Artist, Commissioner for Cultural Affairs of the Japanese Government and Mr. Khalid Muharraqi, Bahraini CG Artist was held and H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Asako, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain gave an opening speech. A lot of people who were interested in CG technologies participated in the workshop interactively.
Total over 200 people came to the venue for three days and received favorable reputations.
The 17th Asian Junior Men's Volleyball Championship in Bahrain
- Qualification for Junior Men's World Championship, Mexico 2015 -
From the 17th to 25th October 2014, the "17th Asian Junior Men's Volleyball Championship" was held at Isa Sports City Hall in Isa Town.
Although the Japanese National Team made strenuous efforts in each game, they has finally failed to acquire the Qualification for Junior Men's World Championship, Mexico 2015.
In all of the Japanese matches, the Japanese residents in Bahrain and Bahraini came to the venues and cheered the Japanese National Team with their own cheering goods.

On the 29th of March 2014, Mrs. Tomoko Sumi, the wife of Japanese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, presented to the winner, Mr. Sayeed Dehya Ali Ebrahim the trophy of the Japanese Ambassador Award for the Ikebana Class (Free style exhibition) which is one of the categories of the Bahrain Garden Club's 49th Annual Flower and Vegetable Competition. Also, Mr. Nasser M.J. Al Arayedh, Deputy President of Bahrain-Japan Business and Friendship Society, presented to the winner a memento for the Ikebana Class (Special Occasion exhibition).
The other winners each received a cup or a memento from Shaikha Maram Bint Ahmad Al Khalifa, Director of Office of Her Royal Highness Wife of the King of Bahrain.
2nd Presentation Ceremony of Japanese Books Gifted by Nomura Bahrain-Japan Friendship Fund to the National Library
On the 18th of March 2014, Isa Cultural Centre (ICC) held a ceremony at the National Library in its appreciation of the Nomura Bahrain-Japan Friendship Fund (NBJFF) who has gifted Japanese-related books translated into English to the Library in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan and the Bahrain-Japan Business Friendship Society (BJBFS).
The presentation was the second time since November 2010, NBJFF has chosen 100 Japanese comics bacause the Japanese pop culture enjoys widespread popularity among young peple in Bahrain.
Around 20 people including H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Mr. Takuya Furuya, Chairman of NBJFF, Dr. Mansoor M. Sarhan, Director of the National Library of ICC and Mr. Yusuke Sekiguchi, BJBFS Board Member attended the ceremony, the catalogue of the gifted books was presented by Mr. Furuya to Dr. Mansoor.
The gifted books are displayed in the "Japanese Corner" located on the 1st Floor of the Library at the Isa Cultural Centre.
Makie Exhibition - The Beauty of Gold Japanese Lacquer
On the 2nd of March 2014, the Embassy of Japan in Bahrain launched "Makie Exhibition - The Beauty of Gold Japanese Lacquer", in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Bahrain and with the support of Nomura Bahrain-Japan Friendship Fund at Hall 1 of the National Museum. Moreover, in commemoration of holding the exhibition, the opening reception, which H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Mrs. Tomoko Sumi, the wife of the Japanese Ambassador and H.E. Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, the Minister of Culture attended, was held on the night.
Also, Ms. Natuo Miyashita, Chairperson of the Exhibition Organizers and two leading Makie artisans - Mr. Takashi Wakamiya and Mr. Akira Sugimura attended the reception and Mr. Sugimura demonstrated making Makie at the special booth. There were around 400 attendees in the reception, which were the most ones since the National Museum started.
The exhibition is on until the 6th of April 2014.
The 16th Asian Men's Handball Championship in Bahrain
- Qualification for Men's World Championship, Qatar 2015 -
From the 25th January to 6th February 2014, the "16th Asian Men's Handball Championship" was held at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town and Bahrain Handball Hall in Um Al Hassan.

Bahraini Youths Joining in the 1st Global Leader Development Program
On Sunday, the 19th of January 2014, nine Bahraini youths received their air tickets to Japan at the Embassy by H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, to participate in the 1st Global Leader Development Program, which is the scuceeding program of the Ship for World Youth (SWY) Program.
The delegation, headed by Ms. Shaikha Abdula Buti, will leave for Japan on the 21st of January. They will do a homestay in Kagawa prefecture, do training, board the ship together with 92 Japanese youths and 63 fellow participants from 7 different countries, and visit Ishinomaki city, Miyagi prefecture between the 23rd of January and 12th of February.
Moreover, in the program, the Kingdom of Bahrain is selected as "Japanese Mission to Foreign Countries", and the program by the Japanese delegation is carried out from the 14th to the 19th of February in Bahrain as well as the last year.
Japan Film Festival 2013
The Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with Ministry of Culture, launched "Japan Film Festival 2013" on the 6th, 20th and 28th of November at the auditorium of the National Museum. On the first day of the festival, H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain gave an opening speech.
All movies were subtitled in English because the English language can be understood generally in Bahrain, people with various nationalities as well as Bahraini enjoyed the Japanese movies.
On all of the days, the festivals were very well attended and total over 270 people came to the venue for three days and received favorable reputations.
Bahraini Students' Educational Visit to the Embassy of Japan
On the 28th of October 2013, teachers and students of the American School in Bahrain "Modern Knowledge Schools" visited the Japanese Embassy as an educational visit.
At first, they received explanations of Japanese Economical History after WWII "Why has Japan accomplished the reconstruction?" by the Embassy staff, had a pleasant talk with H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain and watched the DVD movie about the Japanese culture.

On the 30th of September 2013, Ms. Maryam Saif Jasim Saif Ali Al-Rowaiei, a member of the staff in Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom of Bahrain, visited Japanese Embassy and met H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain in order to report the result of Japanese-Language Program 2013 for Overseas Student which was organized by the Japan Foundation in Osaka, Japan. The program took place for 15 days from the 28th of August to 11th of September, 2013.

A Bahraini scholar presented a copy of his book to the Ambassador
On the 25th of September 2013, Dr. Majeed Jasim, Assistant Professor of University of Bahrain, visited Japanese Embassy and met H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain in order to present a copy of his book.
The book was written in Bahrain after he researched on "Climate Change and Human Development: A Comparative Study of Different Societies" for around three weeks in November, 2008 in Japan as part of Japan Foundation's Middle East Group Study Program 2008.
A Bahraini scholar presented a copy of her book to the Ambassador
On the 25h of July 2013, Dr. Fatima Hasan Ahmed Eid, First Educational Development Researcher, Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Bahrain, visited Japanese Embassy and met H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain in order to present a copy of her book.
The book was written in Bahrain after she researched on research development and education reform of Japan from June to August, 2011 at Waseda University in Japan as part of the Japan Foundation’s Fellowship Exchange 2011-2012 program.
Japanese Students’ Educational Visit to the Embassy of Japan
On the 27th of June 2013, teachers and students of the Japanese School in Bahrain visited the Japanese Embassy as an educational visit.
At first, H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain and a student representative made starting speeches, through taking a group photograph (the left picture), they visited offices of the Ambassador and the others and received explanations of the operations by the Ambassador (the right picture) and the others.
The Tokyo Conference 2013 for the Ex-Participating Youth of the Ship for World Youth Program
On the 16th of May 2013, Mr. Mohamed Ali Ahmadi, a board member of the Ship for World Youth Alumni Association-Bahrain (SWYAAB) visited Japanese Embassy and met H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain in order to give his summary report of the Tokyo Conference 2013 for the Ex-Participating Youth of the Ship for World Youth Program (SWY) which was held in March 2013.
Mr. Ahmadi took part in SWY22 as the National Delegation Leader of the Kingdom of Bahrain from January to March 2010.
During the meeting, the Ambassador praised SWYAAB's diligent efforts in Bahrain, wished their every success and hoped that they would act as a go-between for Japan and Bahrain. Mr. Ahmadi expressed their deepest gratitude to the Ambassador for supporting SWYAAB’s activities and their desire to participate actively in developing relations between the two countries.
A Bahraini Student Obtains her Master’s Degree on a Japanese Government Scholarship
On the 2nd of May 2013, Ms. Amina Abdul Aziz Al Abbasi, a Japanese Government Scholarship student visited Japanese Embassy and met H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain in order to present her report of master’s degree.
Ms. Abbasi obtained her master’s degree in economics at Hitotsubashi University in Japan in March 2013. She went to Japan in April 2010, after graduating from University of Bahrain.
During the meeting, the Ambassador praised Ms. Abbasi's diligent efforts in Japan, wished her every success and hoped that she would act as a go-between for Japan and Bahrain. Ms. Abbasi expressed her deepest gratitude to the Ambassador for supporting her studies in Japan and her desire to participate actively in developing relations between the two countries.

On the 23rd of March 2013, Mrs. Tomoko Sumi, the wife of Japanese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, presented to the winner, Ms. Faiqa Al Awadhi the trophy of the Japanese Ambassador Award for the Ikebana Class (Free style exhibition) which is one of the categories of the Bahrain Garden Club’s 48th Annual Flower and Vegetable Competition.
The other winners each received a cup or a memento from Eng. Zahra Abdul Malik, Chairperson of the Bahrain Garden Club.
The Dolls of Japan -Shapes of Prayer, Embodiments of Love
On the 10th of February 2013, the Embassy of Japan in Bahrain launched an exhibition, “The Dolls of Japan”, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Bahrain at Gallery 1 in the National Museum. Moreover, in commemoration of holding the exhibition, the opening reception, which H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Mrs. Tomoko Sumi, the wife of the Japanese Ambassador and H.E. Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, the Minister of Culture, attended, was held on the night of the same day. The exhibition will be held until the 2nd of March 2013.

Middle East and North Africa Group Invitation Program 2012-2013
On Thursday, the 17th of January 2013, five Bahraini youths received their letter of invitation to Japan at the Embassy from H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, to take part in the Middle East and North Africa Group Invitation Program 2012-2013 which is organized by the Japan Foundation.
The delegation, headed by Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Bucheeri, will be leaving for Japan on the 2nd of February. About two weeks visit will take these young people to Tokyo, Koriyama-shi, Fukushima, Sendai-shi and Ishinomaki-shi, Miyagi to participate in an exchange program, lecture, discussion, workshop and press conference regarding the theme “Redesigning a community and society through creative solutions to social issues” from the 3rd to the 12th of February, 2013.
Bahraini Youths Joining in the 25th Ship for World Youth Program
On Monday, the 14th of January 2013, ten Bahraini youths received their air tickets to Japan at the Embassy from H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, to participate in the 25th Ship for World Youth (SWY) Program.
The delegation, headed by Ms. Hamsa Saeed Juma, will be leaving for Japan on the 22nd of January to board the Youth Ship together with 120 Japanese youths and 100 fellow participants from 10 different countries. About three weeks long voyage will take these young people on board to Naha-shi, Okinawa, Kobe-shi, Hyogo, Ofunato-shi, Iwate from the 4th to the 22nd of February, 2013. Japan Film Festival 2012
The Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture & Research, launched “Japan Film Festival 2012” on the 7th of November at the Shaikh Ebrahim Center. On the first day of the festival, “WATER BOYS” was screened. All movies are subtitled in English, so many people, including British, French, Pilipino as well as Bahraini can enjoy the Japanese movies. “Japan Film Festival 2012” will show popular or talked-about Japanese movies every Wednesday night at 8pm until the 21st of November at the Shaikh Ebrahim Center.

The 5th Asian Men’s Youth Handball Championships in Bahrain
- The Qualification for Men’s Youth World Championships in Hungary 2013 -
From the 6th to 15th September 2012, the “5th Asian Men’s Youth Handball Championships” was held at Bahrain Handball Hall in Um Al Hassan.
The Japanese National Team defeated the Bahraini National Team 34-33 in the semi-final of the championships, and also acquired the Qualification for Men’s Youth World Championships in Hungary 2013 for the first time in 30 years.
The Japan Foundation provides Japanese-Language Program 2012 for Overseas Student
On the 2nd of August 2012, Ms. Noor Al-Mealla visited Japanese Embassy and met H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain in order to participate in the Japanese-Language Program for Overseas students which is organized by the Japan Foundation in Osaka, Japan. The program will take place for 15 days from the 29th of August to 12th of September, 2012.
The program will offer participants opportunities to visit attractive sites in major cities in Japan, to communicate with Japanese citizens through home stay with Japanese host families and to deepen their understanding of Japan including Japanese people, society, culture and history and so on.
Ms. Noor has been studying Japanese language since 2011 until now at the “Continuing Education Program” provided by Ministry of Education which is supported by NOMURA Bahrain-Japan Friendship Fund.
A visit by Japan’s Under-21 Men’s Handball Team to Bahrain
From the 24th to the 28th of June 2012, Japan’s Under-21 Men’s Handball Team visited the Kingdom of Bahrain to play practice matches with Bahrain’s Under-21 Men’s Handball Team.
Then, they left for Doha, in the State of Qatar to participate in the 13th Asian Men’s Junior Handball Championship that will be held from the 30th of June to the 13th of July 2012.
“TAIKO LEGEND - Heart Beat from Japan” EITETSU HAYASHI
On the 9th and 10th of March 2012, the Embassy of Japan, for the purpose of introducing the taiko drum (a traditional Japanese instrument) worked in collaboration with the Japan Foundation and the Ministry of Culture in hosting "Eitetsu Hayashi TAIKO LEGEND -Heat Beat from Japan". This event was one of many taking place within the "Spring of Culture Festival", an international art festival organized by the Ministry of Culture, which is conducted every spring in Bahrain.
This was the first ever taiko concert held in Bahrain and was very well received with an attendance of over 1100 (total for both days) and a standing ovation after each performance. Those attending included H.E. Shaikha Mai, Minister of Culture, royalty and government officials, diplomats, press members, Japanese and Bahraini nationals etc.

Japanese Ambassador Award of the Bahrain Garden Club’s 47th
Annual Flower and Vegetable Competition is presented
On the 11th of February 2012, H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Mrs. Tomoko Sumi, the wife of the Japanese Ambassador, presented the winner, Ms. Faiqa Al Awadhi the trophy of the Japanese Ambassador Award for the Ikebana Class (Free style exhibition) which was one of the categories in the Bahrain Garden Club’s 47th Annual Flower and Vegetable Competition. (* Ms. Majede J. Al Zayani received it in place of Ms. Faiqa who did not attend the ceremony because of her traveling abroad.)
Then, Ms. Najah Al Khuder, the winner of the Ikebana Class (Wedding), was presented the trophy of the Bahrain Japan Business Friendship Society Award by the Japanese Ambassador.
The other winners each received a cup or memento from Eng. Zahra Abdul Malik, Chairperson of the Bahrain Garden Club.
Parallel Nippon: Contemporary Japanese Architecture 1996-2006
On the 7th of February 2012, the Embassy of Japan in Bahrain launched an exhibition, “Parallel Nippon: Contemporary Japanese Architecture 1996-2006”, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Bahrain at Gallery 1 in the National Museum. Moreover, in commemoration of holding the exhibition, the opening reception, which H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Mrs. Tomoko Sumi, the wife of the Japanese Ambassador and H.E. Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, the Minister of Culture, attended, was held on the night of the same day. The exhibition will be held until the 27th of February 2012.
A Visit by Japan's National Men’s Handball Team to Bahrain
From the 20th to the 22nd of January 2012, Japan's National Men’s Handball Team visited the Kingdom of Bahrain to play practice matches with Bahrain's National Men’s Handball Team.
Then, they left for Jeddah, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to participate in the 2012 Asian Men’s Handball Championship that will be held from the 26th January to the 4th of February 2012.
Japanese Art of Flower Arrangement, IKEBANA, was Displayed and Demonstrated
at the Bahrain International Garden Show 2012
The Embassy of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain displayed an artistic Ikebana flower arrangement and presented demonstrations of Ikebana at the Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS) 2012 from the 15th to the 18th of February 2012.
The displayed Ikebana work was designed by Ms. Yuko Mizuguchi, a Japanese Sogetsu Ikebana artist. It symbolized the friendship between Bahrain and Japan being composed of Gasba and Palm Tree, each of which has been traditionally important material in Bahrain. Many visitors were fascinated with its concept and unique shape.
Ms. Mizuguchi also demonstrated how to make Ikebana flower arrangements by using flowers and plants available in Bahrain in front of an attentive audience. More than 300 visitors were amazed by the beauty of her artistic representation.
Bahraini Youths Join the 24th Ship for World Youth Program
On Monday, the 16th of January 2012, ten Bahraini youths received their air tickets to Japan at the Embassy from H.E. Mr. Shigeki Sumi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, to participate in the 24th Ship for World Youth (SWY) Program.
The delegation, headed by Mr. Abdulla Mohamed Alqasim, will be leaving for Japan on the 17th of January to board the Youth Ship together with 133 Japanese youths and 131 fellow participants from 12 different countries. A month and a half long voyage will take these young people on board to India and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka from the 31st of January to the 5th of March, 2012.

The Volkswagen 2011 World Junior Table Tennis Championships in Bahrain
From the 13th to the 20th of November 2011, the “Volkswagen 2011 World Junior Table Tennis Championships” was held at Isa Sports City in Bahrain.
Mr. Koki Niwa of Japan, who was top seed and world number one, won the Boys’ Singles worthy of mention. He defeated second seed and world number two Mr. Gaoyuan Lin of China 3-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-8, 13-11, 11-9 in the final of the Boys’ Singles.
The Japan Foundation provides Japanese-Language Program 2011 for Overseas Student
On the 23rd of August 2011, Ms. Latifa Ali Alnoaimi visited the Japanese Embassy and received an airplane ticket to Japan from H.E. Mr. Hideo Sato, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, in order to participate in the Japanese-Language Program for Overseas students which is organized by the Japan Foundation in Osaka, Japan. The program will take place for 15 days from the 31st of August to the 14th of September, 2011.
The program will offer participants opportunities to visit attractive sites in major cities in Japan, to communicate with Japanese citizens through home stay with Japanese host families and to deepen their understanding of Japan including Japanese people, society, culture and history and so on.

A Bahraini scholar receives Japanese fellowship
- “Fellowship for Intellectual Exchange 2011-2012” provided by Japan Foundation -
On the 15th of June 2011, H.E. Mr. Hideo Sato, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, presented a grant letter to Dr. Fatima Hasan Ahmed Eid, who has been accepted for the Japan Foundation fellowship program. Dr. Eid, Head of Research Development, General Secretariat of High Education Council, Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Bahrain, has been selected by the Foundation to conduct research at a Japanese University for a period of two months.
The aim of the fellowship program is to assist in the development of a new generation of Eastern European, Middle Eastern and African intellectual leaders who will incorporate elements related to Japan into their own fields of research.
As part of the Japan Foundation’s Fellowship Exchange 2011-2012 program, Dr. Eid will research on research development and education reform of Japan from the 20th of June to the 20th of August at Waseda University in Japan.

An IAI-JUTSU Demonstration
The Art of Samurai - ultimate fighting technique -
On the 12th of February 2011, the Embassy of Japan in Bahrain hosted a demonstration of IAI-JUTSU in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Bahrain from 8 to 9pm at the Cultural Hall near the National Museum.
More than 250 people including government officials and members of major martial arts societies in Bahrain attended the event.
IAI-JUTSU is one of the Samurai mortal techniques using Japanese swords and it was established at the end of the Warring States Age in the 16th century. Mr. Masato Matsuura, an IAI-JUTSU master explained: “Although the movement is smooth, it is difficult to understand, so I’ll present Japanese sword technique using single and double sword at the same time”.
A Communication Event between Japan’s U-22 National Football Team
and Japanese citizens staying in Bahrain
On the 5th February of 2011, Japan's Under-22 National Football Team met Japanese citizens staying in Bahrain at the Muharraq Stadium.
The meet-and-greet event was organised by the Japanese Embassy in Manama for the Japanese Community. Clad in football uniforms, around 70 members of the Japanese community came with their families in support of the team. Team members freely interacted with the fans as they signed autographs and took pictures.
The team is currently visiting Bahrain to have a friendly match with the Bahrain National Football Team which will take place on the 12th of February, 2011.

Bahraini Youths Join the 23rd Ship for World Youth Program
On Sunday, the 9th of January 2011, eleven Bahraini youths, selected out of about 80 contestants, received their air tickets to Japan at the Embassy from H.E. Mr. Hideo Sato, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, to participate in the 23rd Ship for World Youth (SWY) Program.
The delegation, headed by Ms. Leena Mustafa Sharif, will be leaving for Japan on the 10th of January to board the Youth Ship together with 131 Japanese youths and 143 fellow participants from 12 different countries. A month and a half long voyage will take these young people on board to the Republic of Fiji Island and Australia from the 21st of January to the 2nd of March, 2011.
Presentation Ceremony of Japanese Books’ Gifted
by The Nomura Bahrain-Japan Friendship Fund to The Isa Cultural Centre National Library
On the 10th of November 2010, the Isa Cultural Centre organized a ceremony at its National Library to show its appreciation for the Nomura Bahrain-Japan Friendship Fund which gifted around 200 Japan-related books chosen from diverse categories to the Isa Cultural Centre in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan and the Bahrain-Japan Friendship Society. A catalogue of the gifted books was presented by Mr. Takuya Furuya, Chairman of the Nomura Bahrain-Japan Friendship Fund to H.H. Sheikh Abdulla Bin Khalid Al Khalifa, Chairman of Board of Trustees of Isa Cultural Centre.
The Nomura Bahrain-Japan Friendship Fund has adopted this respectable project to further strengthen the friendly ties already existing between the two countries in celebration of the 20th founding anniversary of the organization. It is the first time such a large scale of Japanese books have been gifted to the National Library of the Kingdom. Those gifted books will be displayed in the “Japanese Corner” located on the 1st Floor of the Library at the Isa Cultural Centre.
Reception for Japanese Scholarship Alumni of Bahrain
On the 27th of October 2010, H.E. Mr. Hideo Sato, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain and Mrs. Hideko Sato, the Wife of the Japanese Ambassador, hosted a reception for the Japanese Scholarship Alumni of Bahrain at their residence.
The Japanese Government has been providing scholarships to Bahraini students every year since 1994 so far, and 25 students have benefited from the program. From this 25, 11 have already returned to Bahrain finding positions with the Ministry of Education, the University of Bahrain, a dental clinic etc. 5 of them attended the reception.
They said that they would like to cooperate with the Embassy of Japan for strengthen friendly relations between Bahrain and Japan, especially in the promotion of understanding toward Japan in Bahraini students.
2 Bahraini Educators visit Japan to join the Training Program for GCC Countries 2010
By invitation from the Japanese Government, Ms. Fatema Sagar Al Noaimi, Specialist Educational at primary education from the Ministry of Education and Mr. Omar Adel Alkhan, teacher at the Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Institute of Technology are going to visit Japan to take part in the “Training for GCC Educationalists 2010” from the 17th to the 30th of October 2010.
On the 12th of October, Ms. Noaimi and Mr. Alkhan met H.E. Hideo Sato, the Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain at the Embassy of Japan and expressed their hopes to visit Japan.
This program was designed to provide opportunities for Bahrainis as well as other participants from Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE to get first-hand knowledge about Japan’s educational system including education methods, teacher training and effective school management by visiting various public and private schools, lectures, and discussions with their counterparts. The program also includes visits to institutes for multimedia education and e-learning.

The program will offer participants opportunities to visit attractive sites within major cities in Japan, to communicate with Japanese citizens through home stay with Japanese host families and to deepen their understanding of Japan including Japanese people, society, culture and history and so on. The program is implemented every few years.
Ms. Ebtisam has been studying the Japanese language since 2006 at the University of Bahrain and also at the “Continuing Education Program” provided by the Ministry of Education which is supported by the NOMURA Bahrain-Japan Friendship Fund.
A Bahraini scholar alumni visited the Japanese Ambassador
On the 13th of July 2010, Dr. Ahmed Bucheeri, a Bahraini scholar alumni, visited H.E. Mr. Hideo Sato, the Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain. “It could be my role to reflect my experience in Japan and strengthen relationship more between Japan & Bahrain in the various areas such as economy and technology”, said Dr. Bucheeri.
After graduating from the University of Bahrain, he went to Japan as a student sponsored by the Japanese Government Scholarship in April 2003, earned a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering in March 2006 at Ibaraki University, and received his PhD. in Mechanical Engineering from Ibaraki University in Japan in March 2009. Then, he continued his own research as a postdoctoral fellowship at Ibaraki University until March 2010, and assumed Assistant Professor, Center of Engineering Studies, College of Engineering, University of Bahrain in June 2010.
Japanese Cultural Event "Zen Culture and Japanese Cooking"
On 11th May, 2010, a Japanese cultural event entitled "Zen Culture and Japanese Cooking" was hosted by Mrs. Hideko Sato, wife of the Ambassador of Japan, as part of the Jusoor Program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain. This program is designed for ladies as a bridge between Bahrain and the rest of the world to promote mutual understanding by learning alternately the history, culture, politics and economy of the host country through various events. "Jusoor" means bridges in Arabic.
H.E. Shaikha Wesal bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, wife of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the Jusoor Program, wives of Bahraini dignitaries and Ambassadors, and other invited guests attended the event. Mrs. Ambassador made a presentation on Zen culture and the guests enjoyed various sceneries of Japan on DVD, demonstration of tofu cooking and Japanese foods.

Environment Symposium for Youth - Think Globally and Act Locally to Save Our Future- at University of Bahrain
On the 29th March, Embassy of Japan in cooperation with Fukuda research room of Meiji University, University of Bahrain (UOB) and Friends of the Environment club-UOB held an environmental symposium for youth entitled: "Think Globally and Act Locally to save our future" at the UOB campus.
The main lecture was provided by Dr. Majeed Jassim, Assistant Professor, Chemical Engineering Department, College of Engineering of UOB, as he briefed Japan’s experience of addressing the environment issues. Also, two Bahraini students, Shaikha Elaiwy and Fahad Muslem, and one Japanese student, Mr. Ysushi Ohno, Meiji University of Japan, who was connected via internet, gave presentations on their own experience in protecting the environment.
Educational Visit to A’ali Boys Intermediate School
On 23rd March, a diplomat of Japanese Embassy visited A'ali Boys Intermediate School as he gave a presentation on different aspects of Japan, such as Japan's geography, industry, food and tradition.
Around 24 students enjoyed attending this class alongside with three teachers and learned about Japan. It is worth mentioning that the children interacted actively with the presentation and called for another similar activity in the future.
Seminar on Balancing Industrial Development and the Environment was held
On 16th March the Japan Foundation in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan organized a seminar entitled "Balancing Industrial Development and the Environment: Making the best use of local knowledge and indigenous Practices" under the patronage of H.H. Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, the President of the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife.
In this seminar, Prof. Ryo Fujikura, Faculty of Humanity and Environment, Hosei University, and Dr. Hiroshi Nawata, Associate Professor of Research Institute for Humanity and Nature delivered lectures on " Japan’s Experience of Pollution Control " and "Environmental Conservation with Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Community Participation: Hima in the Middle East and Satoyama in Japan" using a video film.
Around 50 persons including representatives of the government ministries, parliament, universities, industrial companies and NGOs attended the seminar and they have lively discussions with the lectures about the Japan’s experiences.

Lectures about Policy of Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy in Japan
On 9 th December, Dr. Hisashi Ishitani, director of New Energy Promotion Council gave a lecture entitled “Policy and Measures for Energy Conservation and Promotion of Renewable Energy in Japan ” at the Bahrain Society of Engineering. The lecture meeting was held u nder the patronage of H.E. Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, the Minister of Oil and Gas Affairs and Chairman of National Oil and Gas Authority in cooperation with the Bahrain Japan Friendship Society. More than 150 people who are interested in energy issues and environment attended the lecture meeting.
Dr. Ishitani also another lecture to government officials and researchers of universities at the Bahrain Center for Studies and Research on 10 th December.
The participants were so keen on learning Japna’s latest technology, its experience and know-how in the field of energy conservation and renewable energy.
Japanese Society Holds an Annual Autumn Festival
On 20th November, the annual Aki Matsuri, or Autumn Festival, was held by the Japanese Society in Bahrain at the Japanese School in Sarr. Originally, the autumn festivals were held all over in Japan in thanksgiving for a plentiful harvest of the year. The happy event drew more than 1,000 Japanese, Bahraini and international participants, who enjoyed Japanese foods and games at the open-air booths set up in the school yard as well as entertainments such as demonstration of traditional rice cake making, traditional festival dances and folk music in a truly “Japanese” atmosphere.
A Bahraini Educator Visits Japan to Join Training Program for GCC Countries

A Bahraini Engineer Visits Japan to Learn Japanese Environmental Experience
By invitation of the Japanese Government, Mr. Ali Abdullatif, Acting Head, Operations, Electricity Conservation Department of Electricity and Water Authority goes to Japan to take part in the “Middle East Group Study Program 2009” from 1st to 21st of November 2009.
Fifteen participants in the program, including Mr. Abdullatif, from the Middle East and North African countries are expected to get first-hand knowledge about Japanese environmental efforts such as future-oriented eco-business and development of environmental technologies towards establishing a sustainable society through a series of lectures, presentations, field trips and discussions organized around the overall theme of “Industrial Development and Environment”.
Embassy of Japan donates Arabic books on Japan to the public libraries
The Embassy of Japan donated books and magazines on Japan in Arabic to the Ministry of Education on 13th October, which will soon be available to the Bahraini readers at the public libraries in Isa town, Muharraq and the other areas.
Those books, originally written by Japanese scholars and magazines cover a wide range of subjects on Japan such as Japanese history, culture, economic development, etc. and are designed to provide opportunities to the Bahraini public to learn about different aspects of Japan.
A Bahraini leaves for Japan to study on the Japanese Government Scholarship Program for 2009
H.E. Mr. Hideo Sato Ambassador-Designate handed over an air ticket to Mr. Mustfa Abdulnabi Dhaif Ali Husain on Tuesday, 29th September. He will leave for Japan on 1st October to study at a Japanese university on the Japanese Government Scholarship Program for 2009.Mr. Mustfa Abdulnabi Dhaif has been accepted to study electrical engineering at Osaka University as a research student. He is expected to stay in Japan for a period ranging from 3 to 4 years to obtain his Ph.D.
Mr. Mustfa Abdulnabi Dhaif obtained his Master degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Leicester in 2003 and returned to Bahrain to be Senior Lecturer at Bahrain Training Institute.
Two Bahraini students have received the Japanese Government Scholarship for the year 2009, the other recipient is already studying at Tohoku University for his master degree. The Government is screening candidate for the year 2010.
The Japanese Government has been providing scholarships to Bahraini students since 1994. More than 20 students were given opportunities to study at Japanese universities and seven Bahraini students are currently studying in Japan.
The Embassy will release details of the Japanese Government Scholarship Program for 2011 in April 2010.
A Bahraini Student Obtains his Master’s Degree on a Japanese Government Scholarship
H.E. Mr. Takeshi Kondo, Ambassador of Japan was presented a report of master’s thesis entitled "Creating a Braudelian Gulf: A New Skeleton for an Old Body(of History)", by Japanese government scholarship student, Mr. Hasan Hujairi on Tuesday, 28th April at Embassy premises.
Mr. Hujairi obtained his master’s degree in economics at Hitotsubashi University in Japan in March 2009. He majored in economic history and regional economics. He went to Japan in April 2005, after graduating from Drake University in the United States. Mr. Hujairi is going to continue his studies in Exeter University in the United Kingdom to obtain his Ph.D. in October.
During the meeting, the Ambassador praised Mr. Hujairi’s diligent efforts in Japan, wished him every success and expressed the hope that Mr. Hujairi would continue to excel in his present and future assignments. Mr. Hujairi expressed his deepest gratitude to the Ambassador for supporting his studies in Japan and his desire to participate actively in developing relations between Japan and Bahrain.
The Japanese Government Scholarship Program has been offered in Bahrain since 1994. More than 20 students were given opportunities to study at prestigious Japanese Universities. Currently, six Bahraini students are studying in Japan. The Japanese Government selected two Bahraini candidates in this program for the year 2009. One candidate left for Japan in April to obtain his master’s degree and another candidate will leave for Japan in October 2009 to obtain his Ph.D.
The Embassy of Japan is currently inviting Bahraini students to apply for the Japanese Government Scholarships for 2010 in coordination with the Ministry of Education.
A Bahraini leaves for Japan to take part in the Japanese Government Scholarship Program for 2009
H.E. Mr. Takeshi Kondo, Ambassador of Japan, handed over an air ticket to Mr. Ahmed Ebrahim Abdulla on 30th March. He will leave for Japan on 1st April to take part in the Japanese Government Scholarship Program. Mr. Abdulla has been accepted to study information technology at Tohoku University as a research student. He is expected to stay in Japan for a period ranging from 2 to 3 years to obtain a Master Degree.
During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed hope that Mr. Abdulla would utilize his ability to the fullest while in Japan and wished him every success.
Mr. Abdulla graduated from Jordan University of Science and Technology in 2008 and returned to Bahrain to be a web project developer of a telecommunications company.

Participation to Diplomatic Bazaar
On March 29th, Mrs. Hiroko KONDO, wife of Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, and wives of Japanese diplomats participated in the International Embassy ’ s Bazaar which was held by the Mother and Children Welfare Society. Japanese traditional vases, tableware and some handmade goods and other goods were sold in the Japanese booth sold and well received by visitors.
A Bahraini Scholar Receives His PhD. in Mechanical Engineering on a Japanese Government Scholarship
Bahraini scholar, Mr. Ahmed Bucheeri, received his PhD. in Mechanical Engineering from Ibaraki University of Japan in March 2009. Mr. Ahmed Bucheeri's dissertation is titled “ Studies on Micro Bubbling Elements in Mercury Targets for Pulsed Spallation Neutron Sources” . After graduating from University of Bahrain, Mr. Bucheeri went to Japan as a student sponsored by Japanese Government Scholarship in April 2003, and earned Master’ s degree in mechanical engineering in March 2006 at Ibaraki University.
Japanese Flower Arrangement (IKEBANA) Demonstration
On Thursday, 5 th March, 2009, Mrs. Hiroko Kondo, wife of Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain, held a Japanese Flower Arrangement (IKEBANA) Demonstration and Japanese Dolls Festival or Momono-Sekku (Peach Blossom’s Festival) at her residence in Bar Bar, as part of JUSOOR PROGRAM of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Bahrain. H.E. Shaikha Wesal bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, wife of Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of Jusoor Program, wives of Ambassadors, and other invited guests attended the event. Mrs. Yuko Mizuguchi, a registered teacher and a member of Ikebana International gave a demonstration of five big flower arrangements for the guests. Some of the guests have also enjoyed making their own Ikebana arrangements by using gift bags and tall glasses.
Japanese Children’s paintings are exhibited in Salman Cultural Center
H.E. Mr. Takeshi Kondo, Ambassador of Japan attended the opening ceremony of the 1 st Exhibition for the Exchange of Culture and Arts for Children of Toyama- Japan on 23 rd February in Salman Cultural Center organized by General Organization of Youth and Sports. Over eighty paintings of Japanese children ranging from 4 to 9 years old are exhibited, depicting life and nature of Toyama prefecture.This exhibition is organized in response to the participation of Bahraini children’s paintings in the art exhibition held last year in Toyama prefecture, Japan in cooperation with Ms. Kalthoom Amin, Toyama Honorary Friendship Envoy and the Sulman Cultural Center.
Professor Shimada makes lectures about Japanese Economy
Dr. Shimada, President of Chiba University of Commerce, gave lectures entitled “Japanese Economic Development : Implications for Development Strategies” He hold two lectures, one for students, professors at Arabian Gulf University on 8 th, the other for government officials and businessmen at Movenpick Hotel on 9 th. Both lecture were great success with a lot of questions from the audience. On the 9 th evening, Mr. Mubarak Kanoo, President of Bahrain Japan Friendship Society, invited Dr. Shimada and society members to his residence to hold presentation and dinner reception.
A Panel Designed by Bahraini children is presented to Hiroshima City
H.E. Mr. Takeshi Kondo, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bahrain and H.E. Dr. Khalil Bin Ebrahim Hassan, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Japan paid a visit to the Mayor of Hiroshima City, Mr. Tadatoshi Akiba on 5th February, 2009, and presented to him a panel designed by Bahraini children on the 5, February 2009.
The panel denoted the flag of the Kingdom of Bahrain in red and white origami (Japanese traditional art of paper folding) cranes symbolizing the hope of the Bahraini youngsters for world peace. These children were participants in the origami workshop at Youth Innovation Center in cooperation with the Embassy and the alumni of the Ship for World Youth Bahrain in July 2007.
During their meeting, the Bahraini Ambassador and Mayor of Hiroshima City agreed to promote bilateral relations between Bahrain and Hiroshima City.

Japanese Government provides the training program for GCC Educationalists
Mrs. Amal Jasim Al-Qallaf, English Teacher at Umkalthoom Intermediate Girl’s School, Ministry of Education is attending a Japanese program, “The Training for GCC Educationalists 2008” from 9 th to 22 rd November 2008.
The program intends to provide opportunities for administrators or teachers of Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to get first-hand information on the Japanese educational system in order to strengthen the mutual understanding and goodwill between Japan and their countries. Mrs. Amal Jasim Al-Qallaf will get acquainted with Japanese educational method, teacher education and evaluation, and will visit the technical schools which support Japanese high-tech industry and other institutes for teacher’s development and multimedia education.
Two researchers visit Japan to pursue their research studies
Japanese Government provides opportunities for two Bahrainis to pursue their research studies in Japan. Dr. Majeed Safar Jasim, Assistant Professor of University of Bahrain and Ms. Amna Hamad Ali Al Romaihi, Assistant Researcher of Bahrain Center for Studies and Research left for Japan to take part in “Middle East Group Study Program 2008” from 10 to 29 November 2008.
Eighteen participants including two Bahrainis from the Middle East will have collaborative interaction through a series of lectures, participants’ presentations, field trips and workshops organized around the overall theme of “Development and Society: from Political, Economic and Cultural Perspectives”.
Dr. Majeed Jasim’s topic of research is “Climate Change and Human Development: A Comparative Study of Different Societies”, Ms. Amna Al Romaihi’s is “E-learning Rule in Development of Society”.
The Ambassador H.E. Mr. Takeshi Kondo expressed his hope that the participants will develop their network with Japanese researchers in their respective specialized fields of research through the Program.
The organizer of this program, the Japan Foundation, has selected them from thirteen Bahraini candidates who applied for this program. This is the first participation for the Kingdom of Bahrain in this program, which will enhance cooperation between Japan and the Kingdom of Bahrain in the field of humanities and social sciences.
Bahraini educators go through the Japanese educational system
Ms. Khulood Abdulla Abdulla, Mathematics teacher of Hidd Intermediate Secondary Girls School, Mr. Aqeel Yousf Ali, English language teacher of Shaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Mohamed Al Khalifa Secondary Boys School and Ms. Khulood Abdulla Albalooshi, English language teacher of Omima Bent Al-Noman Secondary Girls School left for Japan to take part in “Group-Tour Program for Secondary-School Educators 2008” provided by the Japan Foundation from 21 October to 5 November 2008.
This program is intended to provide opportunities for secondary school teachers and administrators from all over the world to observe first-hand the educational system, culture and society of Japan and thereby to further strengthen the friendly relations and mutual understanding between Japan and their countries.
Three Bahraini teachers, together with other 94 secondary school educators from 33 countries will attend lectures on Japanese education, visit schools and have city tours in Tokyo, Hiroshima and Kyoto.
A Bahraini leaves for Japan to take part in the Japanese Government Scholarship Program for 2008
Mr. Yacoub Salman Al-Slaise, Specialist of Ministry of Education has been accepted to study Multimedia Technology in Education at Nagoya University as a scholarship student. He left for Japan on 2nd of October, and will take part in the program organized by the Government of Japan. He is expected to stay in Japan for 2 to 3 years to obtain a Master Degree.
Japanese Government selected two candidates in this program for 2008. Mr. Hasan Abdulridha Kadhim left for Japan in April 2008 and he is staying as a researcher at University of Tsukuba.
Japanese-Language Program for Foreign-Service Officers
Mr.Ahmed Mohamed Hakeem Alteraifi, Third Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain is invited to join the Japanese-Language Program for Foreign-Service Officers provided by the Government of Japan. He will study in Japan for eight months (October 2008 - Late May 2009) practical Japanese language , culture and society of Japan. In addition to intensive language lessons, the Program provides the participants with various courses on Japan including lectures on Japan's foreign policy, field trips to various places in Japan, weekend excursions, and home stays in order to deepen the understanding of Japan from various angles.
The Japan Foundation provides Japanese-Language Program for Overseas Students
Mr. Ahmed Ebrahim Abdulla is going to attend Japanese-Language Program for Overseas Students (Outstanding Students) provided by the Japan Foundation in Osaka, Japan from 10th to 24th September 2008.He has been studying Japanese in the “Continuing Education Program” provided by Ministry of Education, which are supported by NOMURA Bahrain-Japan Friendship Fund established in 1990.The program intends to offer students of Japanese language the opportunity to visit Japan and to deepen their knowledge of Japanese language, society and culture for the purpose of further encouraging their study.
Mr. Ahmed Ebrahim Abdulla will have the opportunity to visit cultural, industrial facilities and historical sites, as well as experiencing home stay with Japanese host family.
Bahraini children visit the Embassy of Japan
Seven girls and boys who took part in the summer program of Youth Innovation Center visited the Embassy of Japan to learn about Japanese culture on 15 July 2008. They made a small tour of the Embassy. They also experienced Japanese culture, making paper (origami) crane, wearing Japanese traditional clothes (Kimono). They had a brief Japanese language lesson as well. Ms. Nadia Saeed Al Meraisi, a member of the 20 th Ship for World Youth Program led the group.
The Japanese calligraphy and tea ceremony demonstrated
Japanese pianist Mr. Toshiki Usui held a piano recital in the Spring of Culture 2008 under the patronage of Economic Development Board at Culture Hall on 5 March 2008. He performed popular classical pieces, including works by Japanese composers.
