The Traveling Exhibition “Variation and Autonomy: The Prints of Contemporary Japanese Painters”

As part of celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Embassy of Japan in Bahrain, in cooperation with the Japan Foundation and the Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities will organize the following exhibition to introduce contemporary Japanese prints.
1. Exhibition: “Variation and Autonomy: The Prints of Contemporary Japanese Painters”
2. Outline: This exhibition introduces the work of ten artists who explored a wide range of possibilities through prints and expanded the range of expression in contemporary art using the print medium in the 1970s. Rather than focusing on specialists who are considered to have shaped the history of contemporary Japanese prints, the exhibition presents prints by painters who led the trends of contemporary art and attempts to reassess the existing history of contemporary Japanese prints.
Exhibiting artists (in order of work): Masanari Murai, Toshinobu Onosato, Yasukazu Tabuchi, Yayoi Kusama, Natsuyuki Nakanishi, Hitoshi Nakazato, Tomoharu Murakami, Naoyoshi Hikosaka, Kosai Hori, and Toeko Tatsuno
3.Duration:From September 1 to September 26, 2022 (Opening at 7PM on September 1)
4.Venue:Bahrain National Museum (from 8AM to 8PM, closed on Tuesdays)
5.Entrance Fee:This exhibition is free of charge. The entrance fees for entering the museum is (BD1+VAT per person for foreigners or BD0.5+VAT per person for Bahraini nationals).
