Japanese Archaeologists gave presentations & signed MoU between BACA

On February 12, 2023, in the National Museum, presentations were given on the archaeological site survey in Bahrain by Dr. Nishifuji, Technical Advisor of the Archaeological Institute of Kashihara, Nara Prefecture, Dr. Abe, Senior Researcher, and Ms. Yamada, Assistant Fellow of the National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Tokyo, who are conducting excavations at the site, and Dr. Uesugi, Associate Professor at Kanazawa University, Institute for Ancient Civilizations and Cultural Resources.
Before they gave their presentation, H.E Masayuki Miyamoto, Ambassador of Japan gave the opening address and each archaeologist team signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) regarding to excavation and research activities.
The contents of each MoU are as follows;
(1) MOU with National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Tokyo: Excavation and archaeological measures at the Wadi Al-Seil burial mounds for 5 years.
(2) Memorandum of Understanding with the Archaeological Institute of Kashihara: To facilitate excavation and archaeological work at the Tylos burial mounds in Maqaba.
(3) Memorandum of Understanding with Kanazawa University: to document archaeological sites in Japan and to conduct research on archaeological sites stored in the National Museum.
H.E.Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of BACA, noted the importance of cultural and archaeological research between the two countries in the field of archaeology, and thanked the Japanese archaeological team for their cooperation.
