 On October 5, Ambassador Okai participated in the ceremony to announce the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish “Bahrain Center for the Arabian Gulf Archaeology and Cultural Heritage”. The ceremony took place of the National Museum and was attended by H.E. Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities , Dr. Masahiko Tomoda, Deputy Director of the Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties(TNRICP), and many other participants.
Dr. Masashi Abe, Head , Conservation Design Section of TNRICP and Senior Researcher, presented the results of the excavation, conservation, and restoration of archaeological sites in Bahrain. It is expected that the establishment of the center will contribute to the preservation, documentation, and future transmission of cultural heritage between the two countries and in the Gulf region.
